Impact assessments

14 July 2012

Impact Assessments (IAs) are a fundamental tool for decision-making. Impact Assessments are and will be produced in relation to MPAs (e.g. MCZs); MSFD / OSPAR; as part of Appropriate Assessment for N2K sites; and their significance in decision-making is therefore important to understand.

Impact AssessmentThe guidance and workshops, alongside the workshop outputs, will enable NGO staff to better engage with and question the approaches and content of the economic analysis in these IAs. This will mean a consistent understanding and approach for all the partners, hence enhancing their combined ability to understand and influence consultations on IAs.

Understanding the Green Book framework or using other frameworks such as The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB) as a tool for going beyond standard Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA) will also form part of the outputs.

The first workshop dealt with the IAs for the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) consultation as an example.
