The Marine Socio-Economics Network (MSEN) launch

On June 13th the Marine Socio-Economics Network (MSEN) was launched. The launch event was followed by a workshop on June 14th 2012 which focussed on building an understanding of impact assessments.

The network launch included staff from all partner NGOs (WWF, RSPB, MCS and Wildlife Trusts) as well as three of the NEF team.

The day began with presentations and an opportunity to ask questions about the project and input into ideas for the network; proceedings began with a description of the MSEP project background and workplan, listing key activities and outputs while providing an opportunity to discuss the most effective way to use the combined ability and future potential for the network. This was a precursor to delivering the first network workshop which focussed on impact assessments (IAs) on June 14th which was the first opportunity for the network to be involved in training together.

The example used to illustrate what an impact assessment (IA) is and how / why they are produced was the current impact assessment for the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD).
