Socio-economic studies

These articles include the MMO's soico-economics report for the UK as well as the Crown Estate socio-economic indicators for marine activities - these are useful documents for comparing the contribution of each marine sector to each other in terms of employment and contribution to the UK economy.

Ecosystem services

These documents present some valuation work done on the UK marine estate, on behalf of the Crown Estate by EMU Ltd (2010 and 2011) and also includes a draft summary of SEI's 'valuing the ocean' program.

Marine Protected Areas

The following link is to the PISCO publications page, this page includes case studies from around Europe on the value of MPAs.

Specifically for the UK, the attached article by Flethcer et al reviews the ecosystem services proivded by a UK MPA network.


The MMO study reports the structure and activity within the UK fishing fleet for 2011. This is the latest report compiling all landings, value and employment data which the MMO holds.

The 'sunken billions' (2009) report was produced by the World Bank and deals with the economic case for fisheries reform.
